Several new Fresno Unified teachers at an event

Fresno Unified recognizes teacher quality as the number one factor in raising student achievement.  Therefore, “growing our own” teachers may be the most efficient and sustainable strategy for developing an effective teaching force that is committed to high academic expectations for all learners.

The Teacher Development department is committed to providing targeted professional learning, support and mentoring for new teachers. Teachers are evaluated and supported around six key standards called the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP).

The New Teacher Induction Program is a state funded program, co-sponsored by the California Department of Education and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  It is designed to support the professional development of newly-credentialed, beginning teachers, and fulfills the requirement for the California Clear Multiple and Single Subjects Credential.

Our New Teacher Induction Program has been locally designed and implemented to provide formative assessment of teaching practices and individualized support for new teachers.  Each new teacher is assigned an Instructional Coach.  Support is intended to help new teachers take effective actions that will result in substantial, sustained improvements in performance.

To learn more about the Fresno Unified Induction Program, please see our Induction Handbook for details on admission requirements, program expectations and completion requirements.
